Instructions

Proper Position

  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand, arms by your sides, palms facing your body.
  • Stand in front of a step or platform with your feet hip-width apart.
  • Keep your back straight, shoulders relaxed, and core engaged for a stable posture.

Movement

  • Step backward off the step with one foot, lowering your body by bending the front knee.
  • Keep the front knee aligned with the ankle, and avoid letting it go past your toes.
  • Push through the front foot to step back up onto the platform and return the rear foot to the starting position.
  • Alternate legs with each repetition or complete all reps on one side before switching.

Breathing

  • Inhale as you step backward and lower yourself.
  • Exhale as you push through the front foot to return to the starting position.
